
KHULNA, April 19, 2026 (BSS) - A total of 93,788 children aged between six
months and under five years will be brought under a Measles-Rubella (MR)
vaccination campaign in all 31 wards of Khulna City Corporation (KCC).
Of the targeted children, 13,388 are school-going while 80,404 are from the
community, officials said at a press conference held at the Nagar Health
Bhaban of the KCC today.
Administrator of the KCC Nazrul Islam Manju attended the press conference as
the chief guest with its Chief Executive Officer Rajib Ahmed in the chair.
While addressing the function, he said the campaign aims to ensure that
vaccination services reach every child."Public awareness activities,
including miking, are already underway, and meetings have been held with
mosque Imams to support the initiative," he added.
He said Imams will highlight the importance of Measles-Rubella vaccination
during Friday sermons while stressing that mass media has a crucial role in
promoting the campaign.
The administrator urged journalists to intensify publicity so that no child
is left out of the programme.
He also requested media personnel to inform KCC authorities if they observe
any shortcomings in the campaign implementation.
Among others, KCC Chief Health Officer Dr. Sharif Shammiul Islam, Khulna
Press Club Convener Enamul Haque, Member Secretary Rafiul Islam Tutul and
media professionals spoke on the occasion.
WHO Medical Officer Dr. Nazmur Rahman Sajib presented detailed information on
the Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign.
It was informed that a total of 256 vaccination centres will be set up across
31 wards, with 144 vaccinators, 206 volunteers and 62 frontline supervisors
deployed to carry out the campaign.
The campaign will run from 8am to 4pm daily, except holidays, from April 20
to May 10, 2026.
Under the programme, all children aged six months to under five years,
including those who have previously received Measles-Rubella vaccines, will
be administered one dose to prevent measles and rubella.
Similar vaccination campaigns will also be conducted across all districts,
upazilas, city corporations and municipalities in Khulna division as part of
a broader initiative to curb the spread of measles and rubella.
