Chattogram CCC launches special drive to clean canals, drains

CHATTOGRAM, April 19, 2026 (BSS) – The Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) has initiated a special drive to clean canals and drains to prevent waterlogging in the city.

City Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain launched the drive from the Jamal Khan Litchi Garden area this morning, stressing the importance of regular maintenance of canals and drains to ease the hardships of city residents and directing the authorities to work in coordination and efficiency.

Dr Shahadat Hossain said, “Waterlogging is a major problem during the monsoon season in the city. To address this, we have intensified our canal and drain cleaning efforts to ensure that residents do not face unnecessary hardship.”

The programme will be implemented in 41 wards of the city in phases.

City Mayor’s waterlogging adviser Dr Abdullah Al Mamun, Executive Engineer Imran Hossain Khoka, Deputy Chief Conservancy Officer Pranab Kumar Sharma, Mayor’s Personal Assistant Ziaur Rahman Zia, Maruful Haque Chowdhury and local leaders are involved in the initiative.
