RANGAMATI, April 23, 2026 (BSS) - A 10-year old boy drowned in the Kaptai Lake of the district on Thursday afternoon.
 
The deceased was identified as Md. Abdullah, son of Md. Hasan, a resident of Happy Mor area. 
 
According to locals, Abdullah went to the lake for taking bath with some friends in Public Health area of the town.
 
The boy suddenly slipped into deep water. Hearing their screams for help, nearby fishermen and locals rushed to the scene and managed to retrieve the boy from the water after long effort.
 
Abdullah was immediately taken to Rangamati Medical College Hospital, where on duty doctors declared him dead.
 
Resident Medical Officer Dr. Md. Shawkat Akbar said that the boy died due to respiratory distress , caused by prolonged submersion in water. 

The body will be handed over to the family after the completion of necessary legal procedures.
