Khulna Press Club election tomorrow

KHULNA, April 29, 2026 (BSS) - The annual election of the Khulna Press Club will be held tomorrow, with 27 candidates competing for 15 posts, according to the final list announced by the election steering committee.

The committee confirmed that Mohammad Milon has already been elected unopposed as the sports and cultural secretary.

For the post of president, the contest is between Mostafa Sarwar, Mohammad Abu Tayeb and Md. Mizanur Rahman Milton.

Three candidates-Sheikh Kamrul Islam, Md. Tarikul Islam and Md. Hedayet Hossain Molla-are vying for the post of general secretary. MA Hasan and Bimal Saha will compete for the treasurer post.

Four candidates-Md. Zahidul Islam, Sorhab Hossain, Atiar Parvez and Kazi Shamim Ahmed-are contesting for three vice-president positions.

For the joint secretary post, Sheikh Mahmud Hasan and Md. Bellal Hossain Sajal are in the race.

In the library, publication and information technology secretary post, the candidates are Bashir Hossain, Sheikh Zahidul Islam and Md. Robiul Gazi (Ujjal).

Nine candidates are contesting for six executive member posts. They are Sheikh Liaqat Hossain, Sohel Mahmud, Mahendranath Sen, Md. Mehedi Masud Khan, Raju Ahmed, Kazi Motahar Rahman, Md. Anis Uddin, Md. Maksudur Rahman (Maksud) and KM Ziaus Sadat.

Deputy Director (Local Government) of the Khulna Deputy Commissioner's Office Md. Ariful Islam is serving as chairman of the election conducting committee. Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Nazmus Sakib and Senior Information Officer Md. Mehedi Hasan of Khulna Regional Information Office are also involved in election duties.

Voting will be held from 8am to 1pm at the Humayun Kabir Balu Auditorium, and the results will be announced after the counting of votes, the committee added.
