NETRAKONA, May 6, 2026 (BSS) - An indigenous youth was killed in a wild
elephant attack last night at Bhawanipur village under Kullagara union under
Durgapur upazila of the district.

The deceased was Prant Rangsa, 22, son of Lipson Nakrek, a resident of the
same area.

Local and police said that a herd of wild elephants from the Indian hills
entered the locality at night in search of food. At that time, Prant Rangsa
fell in front of the herd of elephants on his way back home. When he tried to
escape, he was attacked by an elephant and died on the spot.

Majnu Pramanik, Range Officer of the Durgapur Forest Department, said such
incidents are common at this time of year, as elephants frequently cross into
Bangladesh from India's forested regions in search of food. He added that
officials have already visited the scene and stepped up monitoring in the
area to prevent further casualties.

The Forest Department has also initiated procedures to provide financial
assistance to the victim's family in accordance with government regulations.

Officer-in-Charge of Durgapur Police Station Khandaker Shaker Ahmed confirmed
the matter and said that the body was recovered and sent to Netrakona Modern
Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
