RAJSHAHI, May 21, 2026 (BSS) - Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has started distributing plastic-free eco-friendly bags and bleaching powder free of cost among the city dwellers for the first time.

The program aims to ensure hygienic storage of sacrificial meat and rapid removal of waste of sacrificial animals ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Azha.

RCC Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton formally opened this programme this afternoon in Ward No. 9 in the Dargapara area of the city by handing over eco-friendly bags and bleaching powder to people.

Later, he went door to door in the Dargapara area for distributing bags and bleaching powder to the city residents.

Under this program, each of the 82,000 Muslim families holding residences in Rajshahi metropolis will receive three eco-friendly bags for hygienic storage of sacrificial meat.

During the inauguration, RCC Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton told journalists, “These eco-friendly bags are biodegradable and will decompose into the soil. We have taken this initiative for the first time. In the future, we plan to make Rajshahi a polythene-free city.”
