Tree plantation drive launched in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, June 17, 2026 (BSS) - Kachua Union Parishad (UP) under Saghata upazila of the district has launched a tree plantation programme as part of the government's initiative to plant 25 crore saplings across the country to maintain ecological balance and create a greener environment.

UP Chairman Sikder Hadiuzzaman formally inaugurated the programme by planting saplings on the union parishad premises on Tuesday. 

Members of the parishad were present during the inauguration.

Under the initiative, timber, medicinal and fruit-bearing trees will be planted on both sides of roads, open spaces and around houses in the coming years.

Local elites, invited guests and journalists attended the programme.
