RANGPUR, June 24, 2026 (BSS) – The Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) has issued special instructions to maintain law and order and protect public interest in the Rangpur Metropolitan City area on the occasion of holy Ashura.

The instructions were issued in a public notice signed by Rangpur Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner of Police (Administration and Finance) Naresh Chandra Sarkar on Tuesday, according to a press release issued today.

The public notice stated that holy Ashura will be observed by Muslims on Friday, June 26.

On the occasion, people from Shia and other Muslim communities will bring out Tazia processions in the Rangpur Metropolitan City area.

A large number of religious devotees, visitors and members of the public may gather at the processions. There is a possibility of disruption to public safety, peace, order and public interest during the event.

In this situation, the RpMP, under the powers vested by law, has imposed a ban on carrying, displaying and using all types of domestic weapons, firearms, explosives, cocktails and flammable materials from 10am on June 25 until the end of the Tazia procession and related programmes on June 26.

Besides, the concerned people have been requested to refrain from bursting fireworks and crackers, using loud microphones and sound systems, and operating any noise-generating devices that may cause noise pollution or create panic.

The public notice also stated that legal action will be taken against those who violate the instructions.
