
KHULNA July 3, 2026 (BSS) – Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-6 arrested an alleged pirate from Sundarbans along with firearms and ammunition during a drive in Koyra upazila of Khulna.
According to a RAB press release, acting on a tip-off, a special operational team of RAB-6 conducted the raid around 4 pm on Thursday in the Sonamukundi Moroler Khal (river) area under Dakshin Betkashi Union of Koyra upazila.
The arrested man was identified as Azharul Islam alias Khanjahan, 40, son of the late Joynal Kha of Joynagar village under Dacope upazila in Khulna district.
During the operation, RAB members recovered two one-shooter guns and 36 rounds of live lead bullets from two separate polythene bags allegedly from his possession.
The firearms and ammunition were seized following legal procedures in the presence of witnesses, the release said.
RAB described Khanjahan as an alleged professional armed criminal and Sundarbans-based river pirate. It said a review of his criminal records found that he is accused in multiple robbery cases filed with Koyra Police Station in Khulna and Shyamnagar Police Station in Satkhira.
A case has been filed against the accused under the Arms Act, and he has been handed over to Koyra Police Station along with the seized firearms and ammunition for further legal action.
