KYIV, Ukraine, Sept 20, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday condemned Russia for ratcheting up tensions with Europe and NATO after three Russian MiG-31 jets violated Estonian airspace.
Zelensky called the 12-minute incursion "outrageous" and accused Moscow of deliberately expanding its "destabilising activity" three and a half years after its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
"These are not accidents. This is a systematic Russian campaign directed against Europe, against NATO, against the West. And it requires a systemic response," Zelensky posted on X.
"Strong action must be taken -- both collectively and individually by each nation," he added, calling for tough global economic sanctions and increased military support for Ukraine.
Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga said earlier that the Russian incursion, which prompted NATO fighters to scramble to intercept the planes, was "a direct threat to transatlantic security".
