DHAKA, Nov 17, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) today said that justice has been established through the death sentence handed down to fascist Sheikh Hasina for crimes against humanity.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made these remarks at a press conference at the BNP Chairperson's office in Ghulshan following a meeting of the party's Standing Committee.
In a written statement, Mirza Fakhrul said, "Justice has been established through this verdict. The highest punishment, in accordance with the provisions of the law, has been given to the fascist Sheikh Hasina and her accomplice, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Kamal. Former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun received a reduced sentence of 5 years imprisonment due to his cooperation with the judicial process."
"The souls of the thousands of martyrs—victims of 16 years of enforced disappearances, murders, and extrajudicial killings, as well as the state terrorism during the 2024 student mass uprising—will find peace. This will also somewhat alleviate the anguish of their families," he added.
He further said, "It was the demand and expectation of global public opinion and the people of Bangladesh that the fallen dictator and her accomplices be tried for crimes against humanity, brutal and heinous killings, and genocide.”
“Today, following a long judicial process by the International Crimes Tribunal that maintained international standards, the verdict against the Awami fascist Sheikh Hasina and her two accomplices has been announced," Fakhrul said.
Mirza Fakhrul reiterated that BNP is determined to establish the rule of law and justice and urged the people to remain ever-vigilant in this regard.
At the same time, the BNP demands fair trials for the accused in other cases.
BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan and Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain was present during the press conference.
