School feeding in selected primary schools begins

DHAKA, Nov 17, 2025 (BSS) - School feeding in government primary schools in 165 upazilas across the country began today. 

Director General of Primary Education Abu Noor Md Shamsuzzaman told BSS that the school feeding programme began in selected government primary schools.

The programme has been aimed at raising attendance in schools, keeping attention of the students to studies and their nutritional development.

Under the programme, the DG said fortified biscuits, banana or seasonal fruits, bread, eggs and UHT milk will be given five days in a week.

About 31.13 lakh students of 19,419 government primary schools will come under the programme till 2027.

Students will get a 120 grams weighing bread and boiled egg on Sunday, bread and 200 grams UHT milk on Monday, 75 grams fortified biscuits and banana or local season fruits on Tuesday and bread and boiled eggs on Wednesday and Thursday.

With providing this feed, the government has a plan to ensure the supply of 25.9 percent energy, 32.2 percent micronutrient, 16.4 percent protein and 21.7 percent fat among the students.

Quality education, balanced and nutritious food along with other arrangement of co-education like game, music, debate and lecture also will ensure the growth of mental and characteristic development.

If the school feeding programme continues then it will help to boost merit of the school children, the DG added.
