Jamaat candidate Azad in Natore-I vows to turn educated population into human resources

NATORE, Jan 28, 2026 (BSS) – Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s candidate for the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) election in Natore-1 Maulana Md. Abul Kalam Azad has pledged to transform the educated population into productive human resources, announcing plans to establish industries through establishing economic zones.

Maulana Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Ameer of Jamaat’s Lalpur Upazila Committee and former Vice Chairman of Upazila Parishad. The Natore-1 constituency comprises Lalpur and Bagatipara upazilas.

While talking to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), Maulana Md. Abul Kalam Azad shared his views in an interview with the national news agency’s Natore district correspondent Farazi Ahmad Rafiq Baban.

BSS: What is your election promise for the voters of the constituency?

Azad: A large portion of the population here is educated but unemployed. I want to arrange employment so they can prosper, ensuring the country’s development. 

He added:  “With ample land available, including the Padma char, it is feasible to build an economic zone. I will invite industrial entrepreneurs to set up industries and factories in this profitable area. We want to turn educated youth into human resources.”

He continued, “In addition, I want to work to establish the rights of all communities. For women, who make up half the population, I aim to involve them in education and ensure their proper evaluation in national development.” 

He said, “I also want to guarantee not only freedom of movement for all citizens but also their safety and security. No one should feel insecure.”

BSS: What are your instructions to leaders and workers regarding the election code of conduct? 

Azad: “After the election schedule was announced, all party banners and festoons were removed, and I personally took part in this work.” 

“Our campaign activities will continue in full compliance with the Election Commission’s laws. In the past, our party has played a responsible role in following election laws, and this will continue in the future,” he added.

BSS: What is your position on the referendum on the July Charter? 

Azad: Our party was the first to call for the implementation of the July Charter. The referendum has created an opportunity to materialize this charter, and we will play the highest role in utilizing it.

BSS: What are your expectations regarding the upcoming parliamentary election? 

Azad: Since my nomination, I have been working in the area, having previously served as Vice Chairman of the Upazila Parishad. 

“I want to fulfill public expectations of a corruption-free, extortion-free, and broker-free society as well as I also want to build a state free from discrimination,” he said, adding, “I am hopeful that the people of the area will vote for the Jamaat-e-Islami candidate.”

The constituency includes two municipalities and 15 unions across the two upazilas. There are 125 polling stations in total, with 368,276 registered voters. Of these, 183,594 are men, while 184,680 are women, and two are third-gender voters.

Other candidates in the race are Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s Barrister Farzana Sharmin Putul (paddy sheaf), Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s Md. Abdullahil Baki (Hatpakha), Bangladesh Biplobi Workers Party’s Md. Ansar Ali (Kodal), Gana Sanghati Andolan’s Md. Sentu Ali (mathal), Gana Adhikar Parishad’s Md. Mehedi Hasan (truck), and independent candidates Md. Taiful Islam Tipu (Colos), Mohammad Yasir Arshad (horse), and Md. Moazzem Hossain (deer).
