SANGSAD BHABAN, April 8, 2026 (BSS) - Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon today said in parliament that the country's education system can be elevated into a modern, technology-based, inclusive and standard level through implementation of various plans and steps.
Milon said this while responding to a starred tabled question from BNP lawmaker Mohammad Fakhrul Islam (Noakhali-5) regarding whether the government has any specific plan for the development of the country's education system and what steps will be taken to ensure its improvement.
With Speaker Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, in the chair, he said the government has a comprehensive action plan in line with its election manifesto, which is being implemented through the relevant departments to ensure overall development of the education sector.
The minister informed the House that the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education has taken initiatives to expand technology-based education by installing multimedia classrooms in all government secondary schools, introducing the "One Teacher One Tab" programme, providing free Wi-Fi, and arranging teachers' training along with integrated technological support.
To address the shortage of teachers, he said, the list of vacant posts in government schools is being prepared and sent to the Public Service Commission (PSC) for recruitment, while transparent and merit-based recruitment in private institutions is being ensured through the Non-Government Teachers' Registration and Certification Authority (NTRCA).
The Education Minister also said that initiatives have been taken to modernise curriculum and evaluation systems through the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB), including curriculum revision, introduction of third language and vocational education, technology-based assessment platforms, and promotion of joyful and moral education.
Milon added that plans are in place to conduct co-curricular activities to develop students' social, human and moral values.
To ensure good governance in the education system, a Digital Monitoring System (DMS) has been introduced to strengthen teacher attendance monitoring, classroom activities and academic supervision, he said, adding that learning outcomes and monitoring reports are being analysed and special supervision is being carried out in lagging institutions.
He further said that an impact evaluation will be conducted in all educational institutions in the next fiscal year.
The Education Minister said steps have also been taken to ensure transparency and accountability in the education sector, including recruitment in private institutions through NTRCA, financial transparency policies, identification of teachers with fake certificates, and introduction of an institutional ranking system.
He said that under the proposed "NextGen Secondary Education" project, plans have been taken for infrastructure development, teacher training, real-time evaluation and monitoring systems.
The Education Minister added that initiatives are also being taken to include technical education at the secondary level, promote creativity and analytical thinking, and ensure inclusive education for students with special needs.
He expressed hope that the implementation of these initiatives will help transform the country's education system into a modern, technology-driven, inclusive and quality-oriented one.
