SANGSAD BHABAN, April 20, 2026 (BSS) - Jatiya Sangsad Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal today said members of both the treasury bench and the opposition in the Jatiya Sangsad should work "shoulder to shoulder" on national issues, underscoring the need for unity in parliament.

Barrister Kamal said this during a discussion in the house when two separate adjournment notices on almost similar issue of energy and its impacts were placed by opposition leader Shafiqur Rahman and jamaat lawmaker Nurul Islam (Chapainawabganj-3) in the house today.

The Deputy Speaker noted that the deliberations reflected a constructive and harmonious environment.

He observed that the matter under discussion was not about whether to adjourn proceedings, but rather whether the issue deserved further debate, which he said was already taking place in a meaningful way.

Highlighting parliamentary procedures, he suggested that instead of moving a formal adjournment motion, the discussion could continue under an alternative rule of the Rules of Procedure.

Earlier, the day's sitting resumed at 3:00 pm with Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal in the chair.
