Two get life-term in Khulna drug case

KHULNA, June 19, 2025 (BSS) – A court here today sentenced two drug traders to life-term imprisonment in a drug case filed with Khulna Sadar Police Station in the city. 

The court also fined the duo Taka 5,000 each, in default to suffer one month more in jail.

Khulna Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Sumi Ahmed pronounced the verdict in presence of one convict, Shuvendu Roy Chowdhury, bench assistant of the court confirmed.

The convicted persons are - Joynal Abedin, son of Ansar Ali, resident of Chacra Raypara area under Jashore Sadar Police Station and Pilton Howlader, son of  Md Milon Ahmed, hailing from Koikoranpara area under Avoynagar upazila in Jashore.

The court also issued arrest warrant against Pilton Howlader as he was absconding for long.

According to court sources, on the afternoon of  February 4, 2013, detective branch police conducted a drive in front of traffic stand premises near Khulna Railway Station as they came to know that two drug traders were waiting with phensidyl for selling those to customers.

Police seized 40 bottles of phensidyl from the spot, as the drug traders managed to flee, sensing the presence of law enforcement agencies.

Sub-Inspector Md Ataur Rahman filed a drug case against them with Khulna Sadar Police Station at night.

On March 31, 2013 SI of Detective Branch of KMP Md Habibur Rahman pressed a charge-sheet against both accused in the court.
