Farooki greets 'Sand City' artists ahead of its premiere

DHAKA, June 18, 2025 (BSS) - Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki today extended greetings to young film director Mahde Hasan's debut feature film 'Sand City' actor Mostafa Monwar and sound designer Aranyak Prithvi for its world premiere at the 59th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in Czech Republic in next month.

He handed over bouquet to them at his secretariat office.

Farooki said the government will recognize those who will promote Bangladeshi culture or gain recognition for the country in the international arena in all fields including music, cinema, photography, theater and architecture.

He also dubbed the international recognition the young director a moment of pride for the country.

Mahde Hasan's Sand City has been selected as one of the 13 selected films in the Proxima Competition section of the prestigious Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the Czech Republic. Before the world premiere at the festival, Bangkok-based international sales agency Diversion has bought the rights for worldwide sales (except Bangladesh and Switzerland).

Rubaiyat Hossain and Adnan Imtiaz Ahmed produced the film under Khona Talkies Production Company and in co-operation with Cinema Cocoon.

A team from Bangladesh is participating in the festival. To pay tribute to their success, the adviser announced that the Ministry of Cultural Affairs will bear the air travel expenses of one of the team and instructed the concerned to take necessary measures.
