Five get life imprisonment in Narail robbery case

NARAIL, Sept 2, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced five people to life-term imprisonment and three months of non-commissioned imprisonment in a robbery case under Sadar upazila in 1998.

Judge of Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-1 Elina Akhter delivered the verdict this afternoon, Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) of 
the court Advocate Tarikuzzaman Litu said.

The convicts are Shahin Munshi, son of Abdur Rashid Munshi of Dhuria village in Narail Sadar upazila, Akhtaruzzaman Babul, son of Mridu Lalmia of Bhavakhali village, Selim Hossain, son of Soleman, Nazrul Islam Mridha, son of Abul Hossain of Fedi village and Tejarat Mollah, son of Mridu Maqbul Hossain of Khanpur village in Magura district. 

Tejarat Molya was present at the court when the verdict was announced. The remaining four are absconding. 

According to prosecution, on the night of June 24, 1998, the accused entered the house of Nirmal Poddar in Bhavakhali area under Narail Municipality to rob and tied the hands and feet of the members of the house at gunpoint. At that time, they chopped Nirmal Poddar with sharp weapons and looted goods worth more than Taka two lakh. 

Later, the injured Nirmal Poddar died while undergoing treatment. 

Nirmal Poddar's daughter Poly Poddar filed a case with Narail Sadar Police Station in this connection.

The judge after examining 11 witnesses and evidence found them guilty and handed down the punishment.

The court also acquitted three accused as the charges brought against them were not proven.
