
DHAKA, May 13, 2026 (BSS) - The National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO) has realized over Tk 354.58 crore as compensation for insolvent litigants through pre- and post-case settlements.
The information was revealed in a report published on the NLASO website, detailing legal assistance provided from 2009 to April 2026.
According to the report, of the total recovered compensation, over Tk 347.58 crore was realized through 64 district legal aid offices across the country, while more than Tk 6.97 crore was recovered through the Labour Legal Aid Cells in Dhaka and Chattogram.
During the period, a total of 14,61,630 beneficiaries received legal assistance at government expense through the NLASO.
Initially, legal aid services were introduced for underprivileged people through 64 district legal aid offices. At present, the services are being provided through the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, Labour Legal Aid Cells in Dhaka and Chattogram, and the national toll-free legal aid helpline call centre (16699).
Under the "Legal Aid Services Act", legal assistance is being provided at government expense to ensure support for financially insolvent and disadvantaged litigants.
The activities of the National Legal Aid Services Organization are being conducted under the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
