
TANGAIL, July 13, 2026 (BSS) - A court in Tangail today sentenced a man to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for using counterfeit currency and fined him TK 50,000, in default to suffer one more year simple imprisonment.
Judge Md. Hafizur Rahman of Tangail Special Tribunal-1 (District and Sessions Judge) delivered the verdict this afternoon.
The convict, Waz Uddin, 48, is the son of Achhar Uddin of Fatepur village under Mirzapur upazila .
Tangail Public Prosecutor Advocate Md. Shafikul Islam Ripon said that on the morning of June 27, 2021, Waz Uddin went to a shop and purchased four bottles of Speed, a soft drink, and paid TK 1,000 note.
The shopkeeper suspected the note to be counterfeit and showed it to people present at the shop.
On suspicion, local residents immediately informed Delduar Police Station and police arrested Waz Uddin.
After search his body, police recovered four more counterfeit TK 1,000 notes from his possession.
Following the incident, the shopkeeper, Joyen Uddin of Delduar Paschim Para village, filed a case under the Special Powers Act with Delduar Police Station.
After completing the investigation, police submitted a charge sheet against Waz Uddin on March 2, 2022.
Based on the evidence and witness testimonies, Judge Md. Hafizur Rahman of Tangail Special Tribunal-1 (District and Sessions Judge) sentenced Waz Uddin to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and fined him TK 50,000 .
The convict was present in the court when the verdict was pronounced. He was later sent to the Tangail jail.
