DHAKA, Sept 14, 2025 (BSS)- Vice-Chair of the National Consensus Commission (NCC) Prof Dr Ali Riaz today called upon all political parties and national leaders to uphold the unity that has emerged through the ongoing dialogue to carry it forward for building a democratic and accountable state.
Professor Riaz described the dialogue as “a historic and unprecedented event in Bangladesh’s political history.”
He said this while addressing a meeting of the National Consensus Commission (NCC) at the Foreign Service Academy in the city this afternoon.
He said, “The collective efforts of political leaders have already created “a national charter – a document of unity that defeated fascist forces and now guides the path ahead.”
Representatives from different political parties attended the meeting to discuss different aspects of implementing the 'July National Charter, 2025'.
Calling the national charter “an achievement of our collective efforts,” Professor Riaz urged leaders to preserve its continuity.
“We must move forward to establish a democratic state where accountability will prevail, citizens’ dignity will be upheld, and social justice ensured,” he said.
Prof Riaz recalled that the Commission began its journey on February 15 and has gone through three distinct phases of discussions with political leaders.
“From March 20 to May 19 we held the first round of talks, followed by 23 sessions in the second round between June 3 and July 30, and now we are engaged in discussions on implementation in the third phase,” he said.
Commission Chief praised the tolerance, mutual respect, and openness that political leaders have demonstrated during the sessions.
“The sincere and substantive discussions of 30 political parties on the constitution, judiciary, law, corruption and public administration mark a milestone in changing Bangladesh’s political culture,” he said
Acknowledging the sacrifices made during the struggle against fascism, Professor Riaz emphasized the responsibility of all parties to make the process successful.
“Our commitment is written in blood. We must always remember those who gave their lives,” he said.
Looking ahead, the Consensus Commission Chief expressed optimism that the cooperation shown in recent months will continue. “If this spirit of unity and cooperation remains intact in the coming months, we will surely reach a decisive conclusion. This is the Commission’s expectation, and our appeal to all of you,” he said.
Professor Riaz concluded by reiterating the Commission’s gratitude. “From the very first day, we have witnessed your cooperation and sincere efforts.”
“On behalf of the National Consensus Commission, I once again extend our heartfelt thanks and salute to all of you,” he said.
