ICT begins recording depositions of NCP Convener Nahid Islam against Hasina

DHAKA, Sept 17, 2025 (BSS) - The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today started recording depositions of NCP Convener Nahid Islam in crimes against humanity case filed against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and two others. 

The ICT-1 headed by Justice Golam Mortuza Majumder recorded the deposition of National Citizens Party (NCP) Chief Nahid Islam as the 47th prosecution witness of the case after ending the testimony of Dainik Amar Desh Editor Dr Mahmudur Rahman.

Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam and prosecutors Mizanul Islam and Gazi M H Tamim moved for the prosecution before the ICT while state appointed counsel Amir Hossain moved for fugitive accused Sheikh Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal. Advocate Zayed Bin Amjad was present before the tribunal for the other accused of the case former inspector general of police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun who later became state approver.

The ICT-1 framed charges against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun on July 10 for their alleged involvement in crimes against humanity. At one stage of the trial, the former IGP Mamun gave confessional statement before the court and became state approver.

Two more cases have been pending in the tribunal against Sheikh Hasina for her alleged involved in enforced disappearances and killings of many people during her 15 years rule and killing of many people at a Hefajat rally in city’s Shapla Chattar on May 5 in 2013.
