DHAKA, March 3, 2026 (BSS) - Compliance with traffic signals by the Prime Minister and other top state officials has contributed to an increase in vehicle speed on the capital's roads, according to a report submitted to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today.
"A report on the reduction of traffic congestion in the capital and the nature of vehicle movement on the roads was presented to Honorable Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today," Prime Minister's Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman said.
The report stated that vehicle speed has increased by 1 kilometre per hour as the Prime Minister and other very important state officials are travelling without VVIP and VIP protocols, he added.
According to the report, previously, the normal average speed of vehicles in the capital was 4.5 kilometres per hour, which is equivalent to walking speed.
After assuming office, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman reduced VVIP protocol and has been complying with traffic signals.
