DHAKA, Mar 25, 2026 (BSS) - Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan today said there is no fuel crisis in the country and urged people not to be misled by rumors circulating on social media.

He also urged the public to avoid panic buying and refrain from making unnecessary purchases amid confusion.

The minister made the remarks at a press briefing held at the secretariat here.

State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yeaser Khan Choudhury and adviser on the ministry Dr Zahed Ur Rahman were present there.

Swapan said the country is facing challenges stemming from the previous government’s import-dependent fuel policy.

However, he added that under the directives of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the situation is being handled efficiently.

He said the country has adequate fuel reserves, so that prices remain at a reasonable level compared to neighbouring countries.

The minister added that a high-level cabinet committee, led by the finance minister, is closely monitoring the situation, considering global conflicts and tensions around the Strait of Hormuz.

He said no decision has been taken at this moment to increase fuel prices.

In response to journalists’ questions at the briefing, Dr Zahed Ur Rahman said there is no fuel crisis in the country.

He added that planned rationing is being implemented to ensure the stability of the supply chain.

He noted that panic buying by the public creates unnecessary pressure on the supply system.

“This is not mismanagement, but a precautionary measure in view of the global situation,” he said.

Addressing fuel pump owners, the adviser said the prime minister has made it clear that there is no plan to raise fuel prices at present.

He warned that any attempt to hoard fuel in anticipation of a price increase will lead to government action.

He also urged the media to play a responsible role in curbing such practices and raising public awareness.
