DHAKA, Mar 25, 2026 (BSS) – Cultural Affairs Minister Advocate Nitai Roy Chowdhury today said the traditional Mahashtami holy bath at Langalbandh is not merely a religious ritual, but a unique expression of the nation’s pluralistic culture, coexistence and shared humanitarian values.

He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a religious discussion and cultural programme held in Narayanganj on the occasion of the Mahashtami Holy Bath (Punno Snan) 2026.

The minister said the event reflects the blending of spiritual devotion and cultural heritage, carrying deep significance in the country’s social and national life.

He noted that at a time when divisions and conflicts are rising across the world, Bangladesh has the opportunity to stand out as a tolerant, inclusive and humane nation.

Describing the Langalbandh gathering as a symbol of that potential, he said the country aims to build its global image based on the pillars of culture, tolerance and humanitarian values, and is committed to establishing its rich cultural heritage as a form of “soft power.”

He further said that a nation’s true strength lies not only in economic progress but also in mutual respect and cultural harmony among its people.

Emphasising the need for a sustainable and equitable society, he said people must remain at the centre of development while the state stays accountable to its citizens.

The minister called upon all present to take a renewed pledge for self-purification and national unity through the spiritual gathering.

The Member of Parliament from Narayanganj-3, the Deputy Commissioner, the Superintendent of Police and the Administrator of the District Council were present at the event, along with a large number of devotees and dignitaries.
