Cooperation sought for Bangladesh community’s wellbeing in Rome

DHAKA, Feb 14, 2025 (BSS) – Bangladesh Ambassador to Italy Rokebul Haque has sought cooperation from Mayor of Rome for the wellbeing of Bangladeshi community residing in the capital of Italy.  

The envoy made the urge when he met the Mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri at Mayor’s office at Via del Campidoglio on Thursday, according to a message received here today.  

During the meeting, the ambassador expressed his keenness to work with the Rome City Administration to facilitate the social integration and welfare of the Bangladeshi community, living and contributing to the Italian society as well as enhancing cooperation between city authorities of Bangladesh and Italy.

Ambassador Haque requested Mayor of Rome to take necessary measures for establishing a Muslim graveyard, which is longstanding demand of Muslim communities, especially Bangladeshis.

The Mayor of Rome Metropolitan City commended the Bangladeshi community for their hard work, dedication, and their effort to integrate themselves into the Roman society.

Mayor Gulatieri appreciated Ambassador Haque for his eagerness to work with the Mayor’s office and assured that his office would work to ensure better lives, safe and secured work places for Bangladeshi workers so that they are ensured appropriate wages.

He fondly recalled his long association with the Chief Adviser Nobel Laureate Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus.

The Mayor mentioned about the visit of Professor Yunus to Rome for discussions on the theme of Expo 2030 and the 2nd World meeting on Human Fraternity last year organized by the Fratelli Tutti Foundation along with New York City Mayor Eric Adams.
