Cultural practice crucial for sustainable environmental development: Rizwana

DHAKA, Feb 15, 2025 (BSS) – Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest, Climate Change and Water Resources Syeda Rizwana Hasan today said that cultural practice was crucial for sustainable environmental development.

“Culture and environment are interconnected, and a healthy cultural practice can contribute positively to protect environment,” she said while inaugurating a performing arts styled ‘Ananda Academy for Performing Arts’ as the chief guest at Baridhara in the city.

Stressing the vital role of cultural practice in fostering sustainable environmental and social development, she said culture is a fundamental medium for shaping human consciousness.
 
“A person with a strong cultural foundation would never kill wild elephants or harm wildlife without major reasons. A healthy cultural practice strengthens the nation,” the adviser added.

Ananda Academy for Performing Arts was established to provide young children and teenagers with engaging themselves in performing arts such as dance, music and drama.

Nasreen Sobhan, Chairperson of ASMT’s Board of Trustees presided over the function, which were featured performances by renowned cultural personalities including Shamim Ara Neepa, Abeda Sultana and Rebeka Sultana.

Organisers expressed their commitment to promoting cultural education among the younger generation.
