41th death anniversary of General MAG Osmani observed

SYLHET, Feb 16, 2025 (BSS) – The 41th death anniversary of General MAG Osmani, the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces during the War of Liberation, was observed here today.

To observe the death anniversary, the 17th Infantry Division of the Bangladesh Army paid rich tributes to Osmani by placing wraths at his grave at Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) Dargah in Sylhet this morning.

General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 17 Infantry Division and Sylhet Area Commander, Major General A. S. M. Ridwanur Rahman paid tribute to the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces during the War of Liberation.

Later, a smart group of Bangladesh Army gave a guard of honor to Osmani.

A special prayer was also offered on the premises seeking eternal peace of the departed soul of General Osmani and the welfare of the country and the nation. 

All senior military officers of the Sylhet area, members of various ranks of the military and local dignitaries were present during the time.

Osmani was born in Sunamganj, Assam Province during the British era on September 1, 1918 and breathed his last in London on February 16, 1984.

He was educated in Assam and Sylhet and later, graduated from Aligarh Muslim University in India.
