DHAKA, March 24, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today placed former state minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak on a four-day remand in a case lodged with the city's Jatrabari Police Station over the murder of Obaidul Islam during the July-August mass uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiak passed the order as police produced Palak before the court and pleaded to place him on a seven-day remand.

The court also showed the former state minister arrested in two more cases filed with the Jatrabari Police Station.

Obaidul Islam died on August 5, 2024, in the Hanif Flyover Toll Plaza area in Jatrabari after getting attacked by police and Awami League (AL) cadres.

The Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Zunaid Ahmed Palak from the capital's Nikunja residential area on August 14, 2024. He has been shown arrested and subsequently placed on different terms of remand in many cases filed over the crimes committed to quell the anti-discrimination student movement.
