Qamrul, Kamal and Atiqul shown arrested in fresh cases

DHAKA, March 24, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today showed former food minister 
Advocate Qamrul Islam, former mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) 
Atiqul Islam and former state minister for industries Kamal Ahmed Mojumder 
arrested in separate cases lodged over killings that took place during the 
anti-discrimination student movement.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiak passed the orders as police 
produced the trio before the court and pleaded to show them arrested in the 
cases. After that, the court sent them back to jail.

Of the three, Qamrul and Kamal were shown arrested in the case filed with the 
Kafrul Police Station over the killing of Torikul Islam Rubel while Atiqul 
and Qamrul were shown arrested in a case lodged with Badda Police Station 
over the murder of Sajib Hawlader.

Atiqul Islam was arrested from the city's Mohakhali DOHS area on October 16 
last year while Advocate Qamrul Islam was detained from Uttara Sector 12 area 
on November 18, 2024. Kamal Ahmed Mojumder was arrested from the capital's 
Gulshan area on November 19, 2024.
