Workers get Tk 6.63 crore as compensation through Legal Aid

DHAKA, March 24, 2025 (BSS) – The National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO) has facilitated compensation payments amounting to Tk 6.63 crore to workers between 2009 and February 2025.

This information was revealed in a report published on the organization's website.

Initially, NLASO's services were introduced at the district level. Later, the initiative was expanded to the Supreme Court (toll-free number: 16430), the Workers' Legal Aid Cell in Dhaka and Chattogram, and prisons across the country.

According to the report, the Workers' Legal Aid Cell in Dhaka and Chattogram has provided 21,401 instances of legal advice. Legal assistance has been extended in 4,416 cases, of which 804 have been settled.

Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) initiatives have been undertaken in 3,300 cases, with 1,913 successfully resolved through this process. So far, 29,117 beneficiaries have received legal aid from the Workers' Legal Aid Cell in Dhaka and Chattogram.

These services have been provided at the government's expense under the Legal Aid Act to ensure access to justice for financially disadvantaged and marginalized individuals.

The National Legal Aid Services Organization operates under the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs.
