No untoward incident will happen during Eid vacations: Home Secretary

DHAKA, March 24, 2025 (BSS) - Home Secretary Nasimul Ghani assured today that no untoward incidents will occur across the country during the upcoming nine-day Eid vacation, as strict security measures have been put in place.

"We are fully alert, along with the police force, to ensure a peaceful Eid holiday. The current stability in law and order will continue," he stated during a press briefing followed the signing of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) between Bangladesh and Australia at the Home Ministry in the Secretariat here.
 
He emphasized that nationwide security vigilance remains in effect as usual. Additionally, two officers from the Home Ministry have been assigned to oversee security arrangements round the clock.   

Responding to a question, the Home Secretary confirmed that there are no known security threats ahead of Eid.

The Home Adviser said the visa centre of Australia in Dhaka might start functioning after the Eid-ul-Fitr. 

"From now on, Bangladeshi citizens will be able to obtain Australian visas directly from Dhaka," he added.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam and Commander of the Australian Border Force, Mark Whitechurch signed the SOP on behalf of Bangladesh and Australia respectively at the Home Ministry here today.
 
Home Adviser Lieutenant General Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) and Australian High commissioner Susan Ryle were present at the signing ceremony.
