DHAKA, May 07, 2025 (BSS) - Principal Information Officer (PIO) Md Nizamul Kabir has said that information officers must work with special skills in fact checking and preventing rumors.

He said this at a training on 'Fact Checking and Preventing Rumors' at the meeting room of the Press Information Department (PID) at the Secretariat here today.

Citing rumors as a major challenge of the present time, Kabir said, "A group is spreading rumors and misinformation systematically to create chaos in society. There is no alternative to creating public awareness about rumors to protect individuals, society and the state from the negative effects of rumors."

He said the officials of the PID are working to identify rumors and disseminate accurate information. The 'Rumor Prevention and Information Committee' of the PID is working to monitor and verify the authenticity of misinformation and rumors spread in the media and social platform, he added.

He said the committee is regularly creating iconotexts and videos to prevent rumors. These iconotexts and videos are playing an effective role in raising public awareness to prevent rumors, the PIO said.

Digital investigative journalist Kadruddin Shishir conducted the training session.

A number of information officials took part in the training.
