JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, May 7, 2025 (BSS) - Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities announced plans to formulate an official policy governing the use of drones on its campus, aiming to balance technological benefits with safety, security and privacy concerns.

JU Pro Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Prof Dr. Sohel Ahmed confirmed the matter to BSS today

"As drone usage within the campus has increased significantly, we intend to form a committee to draft detailed guidelines for regulating drone operations," said the pro-VC.

The policy will likely include designated zones for drone flights, specific operating hours and a system for obtaining prior approval.

Unauthorized drone activities may lead to disciplinary actions or restrictions.

"We understand the potential of drones in research, environmental monitoring and creative media. However, unregulated drone activity can lead to security concerns and privacy violations. So, it is essential to formulate and implement appropriate regulations" Dr. Sohel Ahmed added.
