National Nutrition Week to begin on May 28

DHAKA, May 26, 2025 (BSS)- National Nutrition Week-2025 will be observed from 
May 28 to June 3 with the aim of raising public awareness about nutrition 
involving educating the community on the importance of balanced diets and the 
impact of food choices on health. 

The week-long programme will be inaugurated at the Shaheed Abu Sayeed 
International Convention Centre in the city on May 28 and the closing 
ceremony will be held on June 3 at the Melaghar Conference Room of Health 
Directorate here, said a PID press release today. 

The decision was made at a steering committee meeting for National Nutrition 
Week. Secretary of the Health Services Division of the Ministry of Health and 
Family Welfare Md. Saidur Rahman presided over the meeting. 

This year's theme of the Week is "Nutritious Food for All, From Children to 
the Elderly".

To mark the week, drawing and essay competitions with the participation of 
students and with nutrition-themed quizzes will be organized at various 
educational institutions across the districts and upazilas. 

To ensure the successful implementation of the week, the programmes of each 
upazila and district will be evaluated, and the best district and upazila in 
each division will be selected, the release added. 

Specific nutrition messages have been determined for National Nutrition Week. 
The messages include- Consume nutrient-rich foods; Strive to maintain 
nutritional value and safety in food production, transportation, preservation 
and cooking; Limit sugar and salt intake in food; Avoid excessive fried, oily 
foods and fast food; Discourage children from consuming highly processed 
beverages and foods; Give children one egg and a specific amount of protein-
rich food daily for their growth, development and physical formation; Ensure 
nutritious food for elderly family members; and Eat eggs, milk or protein-
rich food at least once a day to increase energy, strength and immunity.
