Industrial gas supply witnessed 21% rise in January-April period

DHAKA, May 26, 2025 (BSS) – Industrial gas supply rose 21 percent in the January-April period as the sector received 1088 mmcfd gas in April this year, which was only 726 mmcfd in 2024, according to Petrobangla. 

The state-run agency said between January and April this year, the average daily gas supply to the industrial sector stood at 997 million cubic feet (mmcfd), up 21 percent from 823 mmcfd in the same period of 2024.

Due to the government’s various initiatives, industries will get additional 150 mmcfd from May 28, the Petrobangla said here today.

“Additional 150 mmcfd gas will be supplied to industrial sector from May 28 to meet the growing demand and keeping local production smooth,” said Nobel Dey, Public Relations Officer of Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources (additional charge).

Quoting Petrobangla statistics, he said average daily gas supply to industrial sector from January to April 2025 was 997 mmcfd gas, which was 823 mmcfd from January to April 2024.

“The interim government has increased gas supply to the industrial sector at 21 percent from the previous year. In April industries received 1088 mmcfd gas this year, which was only 726 mmcfd in 2024,” he added.

Apart from this, the government has imported additional six-cargo having LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) compared to the last year, according to the Petrobangla statistics. 

It said the import price of per cubic metre gas is Tk 65, which is supplied to the industries at Tk 30 and Tk 31.50 and the government is giving Tk 35 as subsidy against per cubic metre of imported gas.

Petrobangla statistics said 916 mmcfd gas was supplied to industry sector in January, 930 mmcfd in February, 1053 mmcfd in March and 1088 mmcfd in April this year.

But during the previous government regime 851 mmcfd gas was supplied to industry sector in January, 868 mmcfd in February, 847 mmcfd in March and 726 mmcfd in April last year, it said.
