1 confesses in Shammo murder, 3 place on remand

DHAKA, May 26, 2025 (BSS) - A suspect has confessed for his involvement in stabbing of Dhaka University (DU) student Shahriar Alam Sammo while three others have been placed on remand as part of the ongoing investigation.

Md. Ripon gave his confessional statement before the court today when police brought all the detainees of the murder case to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court here.

The investigation officer sought a seven day remand for three other suspects- Sohag, Hridoy Islam and Robin.

After the hearing, Magistrate Saifuzzaman granted a two day remand for each of them. Another accused, Sujon Sarker, was sent to jail as police requested his detention.

All five suspects were appeared in the court today after being arrested from different areas in the capital on Sunday.

Shahriar Alam Shammo, a student of 2018–‘19 session of the Institute of Education and Research (IER) of DU, was stabbed to death on May 13 night near Suhrawardy Udyan here.
 
Following the incident his elder brother Shariful Islam filed a case with Shahbag Police station on May 14.
