11-member committee formed to inspect gems of Dhaka Nawab Estate

DHAKA, May 27, 2025 (BSS) – The government has formed a high powered 11-member committee headed by cabinet secretary to inspect the current condition of various types of jewelry, including the Dariya-e-Noor diamond, which was kept under government custody 117 years ago. 

The remaining other members of the committee are - Principal Secretary, Chief Adviser’s Office, Senior Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Senior Secretary, Ministry of Lands, Secretary, Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Secretary, Ministry of Cultural Affairs, a Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank, Director General, National Museum, Managing Director, Sonali Bank, a gem expert and Chairman (Secretary), Land Reforms Board. 

Chairman (Secretary), Land Reforms Board was made member secretary of the committee, said a press release of the Land Ministry.  

The committee will prepare a report on the details of the gems found after opening the lockers. 

Thereafter, the government will take a decision on the preservation of various gems after taking legal opinions.
