MYMENSINGH, May 27, 2025 (BSS) - The Bioinformatics department under Agricultural Engineering and Technology Faculty of Bangladesh Agriculture University (BAU) today held an academic poster presentation session showcasing students' research projects.

The programme titled "BIE Academic Poster Presentation" took place in front of the faculty dean's office.

Dean Prof Dr Md Zainal Abedin inaugurated the event with the participation of faculty members and students from several departments other than Bioinformatics department.

A total of 46 posters were presented in the event, one of which has already been published in the international journal Springer.

Event organizers said all participants will receive certificates, and three students will be recognized with awards for "Best Poster Presenter."

Students from the Bioinformatics department presented research projects focusing on biological data analysis, prediction models, simulations, DNA sequence analysis, and software development.

Speaking at the event, Professor Dr Mesbah Uddin of the Department of Computer Science and Mathematics said his students had turned their academic and lab work into practical problem-solving models.

"Where existing software fell short, students developed their own. In other cases, they identified and resolved limitations in current tools," he said. "These are foundational research experiences that can support their future postgraduate work," he added.

Prof Dr Md Zainal Abedin praised the students' innovation and commitment to research.

"This poster presentation is a strong testament to our students' talent and curiosity. Bioinformatics is a promising field that can provide practical solutions in agriculture, healthcare, and environmental conservation," he said.

"It is encouraging to see our students applying theoretical knowledge in meaningful ways," he added. "Their efforts in research and software development go beyond academic achievement. They represent a new frontier in Bangladesh's technological and research advancement. I hope this initiative continues and supports students' aspirations for higher studies and international recognition."
