Bangladesh Accreditation Board working to ensure safe food, quality health  services: Industries Adviser

DHAKA, July 10, 2025 (BSS) - Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan today said that the Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB) has been working to build consumers' trust by awarding accreditation certificates to institutions engaged in the country's food and healthcare sectors.

He said stringent quality control systems are essential for ensuring safe food and quality health services. 

"Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are the backbone and driving force of the economy, contributing significantly to employment generation and GDP. Accreditation certificates play a crucial role in enhancing SME capacity, ensuring quality standards, and strengthening theircompetitiveness in the global market," he added.

The Industries Adviser was speaking at a discussion as the chief guest held today at the auditorium of the Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM) in Dhaka to mark World Accreditation Day 2025, organized by the Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB), said an Industries Ministry press release.

Adilur highlighted that so far, BAB has awarded accreditation certificates to a total of 155 institutions, including 90 testing laboratories, 22 
calibration laboratories, 9 medical laboratories, 30 inspection agencies, and 4 certification bodies. 

Additionally, some 2,893 professionals working in various organizations have received training in quality management systems.

Presided over by Industries Secretary Md Obaidur Rahman, FBCCI Administrator Md Hafizur Rahman, BIM Director General Dr Khondaker Azizul Islam, and SME Foundation Managing Director Anwar Hossain Chowdhury also spoke at the event. BAB Director General MA Kamal Billah delivered the welcome address.

This year's theme for the World Accreditation Day 2025 is "Accreditation: Empowering Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)". 

Fahim Bin Asmat, Deputy General Manager of the SME Foundation, presented the keynote paper on the theme.

Officials from the Ministry of Industries, representatives from various public and private organizations, quality and accreditation experts, trade 
body leaders, and members of the business and industrial community attended the event.
