Govt firm to develop livelihood of CHT people: Adviser

KHAGRACHARI, Aug 4, 2025(BSS) – Adviser to Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Supradip Chakma has said the government has attached the highest importance on sustainable livelihood development programme aimed at reducing unemployment problem in the CHT region.

“The government has been working relentlessly for making the hills people as economically self-reliant and ensuring food safety in the region,” he said.

The minister was addressing an agriculture instruments distribution programme among the farmers at Jadurampara Government Primary School ground under Khagrachhari sadar upazila here yesterday (Sunday). 

Local administration organized the programme under ‘The Climate Resilience Livelihood Development and Water Management Project’. 

Khagrachari Zila Parishad Chairman Shefalika Tripura, Project Director of the Climate Resilience Livelihood Development and Water Management Project Pabon Kumar Chakma and Executive Director of the local Zila Parishad Md Abdullah Al Mahfuj attended the function as special guests with Kamalchari Cluster Development Committee Chairman Patrui Marma in the chair,
Later, the adviser distributed 16 power tillers, seven 12HP power pumps and some 4HP pumps among the farmers of seven localities under Kamalchari Union of Sadar upazila of the district. 
The instruments were given from the project jointly financed by the government of Bangladesh and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Terming the agriculture instruments distribution programme as an epoch-making event, the adviser said the distribution of these instruments is not a donation rather it is the state recognition to your contribution to the country and expression of your partnership in the development process of the country.

He said the present government is pledged-bound to develop the livelihood of the people on the plan land and the hill people as well. 

Those who will assume the state power in future they must be at your side, he said adding, “No government can sustain in power neglecting you (the hill people)”.
