8 DU students receive 'Ayesha-Amirul Trust Fund' scholarship

DHAKA, August 4, 2025 (BSS) - Eight students from various departments under the Faculty of Biological Sciences at Dhaka University (DU) have been awarded the 'Ayesha-Amirul Trust Fund' scholarship.

DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan handed over the scholarship cheques at a ceremony held at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building today.

Speaking as the chief guest, Prof Niaz said many students at the university face financial hardship, and such scholarships are vital in supporting them. "Students can also include these achievements in their Curriculum Vitae (CV)," he added. 

"Such scholarships set an example and help strengthen the bond between donors and society. We want to preserve this relationship at any cost. Moreover, these programmes instill a sense of social responsibility in the recipients," the VC said.

DU Treasurer Prof M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury presided over the programme, while Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof Mamun Ahmed and Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences Prof Enamul Haque were present as special guests. 

The scholarship recipients are: Md Jakaria Islam and Md Habibur Rahman from the Department of Soil, Water & Environment; Jidni Hossen Bonna from the Department of Botany; Atiya Sinha Roshni from the Department of Zoology; Mayeda Jannat from the Department of Psychology; and Abdul Majed Bin Sayed from the Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology - all first-year students.

Second-year recipients include Shahriar Sadik from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Habiba Islam from the Department of Psychology.

Each student received a one-time grant of Taka 6,000 under the programme.
