'Govt working to ensure quality education for primary school students'

RANGPUR, Aug 4, 2025 (BSS) - Primary and Mass Education Adviser Professor Dr Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar has said the government is working to ensure equitable and quality education for primary school students in the country. 
 
"As a part of the government's efforts, a school feeding program (SFP) has been taken for the primary level school students to improve the quality of education by providing nutritious food to protect their health," he said. 
 
The Adviser said this today while addressing the 'Government Primary School Feeding Programme Roll-out Session' workshop held at the Begum Rokeya Auditorium of Rangpur RDRS Bhaban in the city as the chief guest.
 
The Directorate of Primary Education in collaboration with the World Food Program (WFP) organized the workshop.
 
Director General of the Directorate of Primary Education Abu Noor Md Shamsuzzaman presided over the event. 
 
The Adviser said that the main objective of the feeding program is to attract students to schools, increase attendance, reduce dropout, improve nutritional quality and increase focus on education. 
 
Putting emphasis on ensuring health safety of the primary school students, he urged all concerned to be careful in preserving and serving food while maintaining its quality. 
 
The Director General of the Directorate of Primary Education said that the government has taken various initiatives to improve the quality of primary education and health of students and turn them into skilled and competent human resources. 
 
"As a part of this, this feeding program is going to be launched. Initially, nutritious food will be distributed to 31 lakh 30 thousand students in 19 thousand 419 government primary schools in 150 upazilas of the country under this program," he said. 
 
Secretary of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education Abu Taher Md Masud Rana, Director of the Directorate of Primary Education Mohammad Kamrul Hasan, Project Director Mohammad Harun Or Rashid, Head of the School Feeding Department of the WFP Bangladesh Emma Lefu and Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur Mohammad Rabiul Faisal, among others, attended the event as special guests. 

Government officials and officials related to primary education were present.
