DHAKA, August 11, 2025 (BSS) - Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali today called upon police officials to prepare for the upcoming national elections with professionalism and neutrality rising above political ideology.
"Preparations are underway to hold a fair and beautiful national election after a long time in the country, with observers from various countries expected to attend. We must gift the nation a fair election to restore the honour and dignity of the police force," the DMP commissioner said.
He was presiding over the DMP's monthly crime review meeting for July 2025 at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium in Rajarbagh.
"Adequate manpower will be deployed across Dhaka Metropolitan area to maintain law and order during the election," he added.
The commissioner noted that crimes committed using motorcycles are on the rise in the capital.
Urging for strict legal action against unregistered and undocumented motorcycles to curb this trend, he said, "All members of DMP will be provided with necessary training to deal with any challenges. We must also gather advance intelligence to prevent crimes, strengthen relations with the public, and foster better understanding among police personnel," he said.
Additional Police Commissioner Faruq Ahmed stressed the need for regular updates to the Criminal Investigation Management System (CIMS) database, saying timely and accurate information management would make investigations more transparent and efficient.
He urged officials to priorities timely execution of warrants and submission of charge sheets.
Joint Police Commissioner Md Faruq Hossain presented the overall crime situation of July 2025 during the meeting.
The DMP commissioner handed awards to officers of different ranks in recognition of their outstanding performance in maintaining law and order, crime control, and ensuring public safety in July.
Additional Police Commissioners Md Sarwar, Faruq Ahmed, S N Md Nazrul Islam, Md Masud Karim, Hasan Md Shawkat Ali, joint commissioners, deputy commissioners, officers-in-charge of all DMP police stations, and officials of various ranks were present.
