Workshop on social, behavioral change held

DHAKA, Sept 01, 2025 (BSS) - The two-day-long workshop on updating the university-level curriculum on Social and Behavioral Change (SBC) was held at Rajendrapur BRAC CDM in Gazipur.

Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) and United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) jointly organized the workshop on Sunday, according to a press release issued here today.

UGC member Professor Dr Mohammad Anwar Hossain was the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the workshop, while its member Professor Dr Masuma Habib and Professor Dr Mohammad Ayub Islam spoke as special guests.
Director on International Cooperation Department of UGC Jasmine Parveen presided over the event.

Associate Professor Syed Tanvir Rahman of Dhaka University, Associate Professor Sarkar Barbak Karmal of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh and UNICEF SBC Programme Manager Md Badrul Hasan conducted various sessions of the workshop.

Professor Dr Anwar Hossain suggested incorporating the concept of communication for development and the needs of the backward communities in the SBC curriculum. 

He said that the UGC will take the initiative to create a curriculum template with the help of UNICEF and university teachers in this regard and implement it.

Professor Dr Masuma Habib said that the initiative to create a curriculum on social and behavioral changes is very timely. 

Professor Dr Ayub Islam said that the curriculum developed on SBC can be implemented as an independent degree alongside a course included in the existing degree curriculum or a certificate course.

Professor Masuma Habib and Professor Mohammad Ayub Islam handed over certificates to the recipients at the event.

Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Treasurer Professor Dr Md Ismail Hossain and Agricultural Extension Education Department of Bangladesh Agricultural University Professor Dr M Hammadur Rahman, along with teachers and researchers from Dhaka University, Rajshahi University, Chittagong University, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Khulna University, Barisal University, Bangladesh University of Professionals, Patuakhali University of Science and Technology, University of Liberal Arts and Khwaja Yunus Ali University participated in the workshop.
