KU VC hails voluntary blood donors as pillars of society

KHULNA, Sept 8, 2025 (BSS) - Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Khulna University (KU) Prof Dr Md Rezaul Karim has said voluntary blood donors are pillars of society, as blood is directly linked with life and death. 

He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of an event, Badhan Olympiad, held last night at the Liaquat Ali Auditorium on the KU campus. 

The event, organized by Badhan, a voluntary blood donors' organization, included quiz competitions, extempore speeches, debates and blood donation activities.

Prof Karim praised Badhan volunteers for stepping forward whenever there is an urgent need for blood. He said the organization has expanded voluntary blood donation to the grassroots level across Bangladesh and has been working tirelessly since the inception of Khulna University. "Badhan is committed to humanitarian service and will never fade away," he added. 

He also emphasized the importance of regular blood donation for patients suffering from complex diseases like thalassemia and urged students to create a fund to further strengthen Badhan's activities.

Director of Student Affairs Prof Dr Md Nazmus Sadat and Badhan Central Committee advisor Prof Sharif Mohammad Khan addressed the event as special guests. 

KU Unit Badhan President Hridoy Saha presided, while Central Committee President S.M. Kamruzzaman Kafi, Joint Organizing Secretary Saif Newaz, and Publicity and Publication Secretary Md Mikail Hossain also spoke. KU Unit General Secretary Atikul Islam delivered the welcome speech. 

More than 600 students registered for the Olympiad, of whom 180 qualified for the final round. Md Khairul Alam Khan of Development Studies emerged champion, while Sheikh Nafiuul Alam Rabbi of Business Administration and Md Masrunul Hasan Tanzim of Electronics and Communication Engineering secured first and second runner-up positions, respectively. 

In addition, 12 other students received awards for their outstanding performance.
