JnU postgraduate thesis students get grants for first time

DHAKA, Nov 2, 2025(BSS) –Jagannath University (JnU) has awarded research grants to postgraduate thesis students for the first time to encourage the students for better research works. 

The grant cheques were handed over at a ceremony held at the Vice-Chancellor’s (VC) conference room with VC Prof. Md. Rezaul Karim.

The VC said, “We are delighted to extend this gesture as a token of goodwill and encouragement to our academically and research-oriented students.” 

He added that similar fellowships for PhD researchers will be introduced soon.

JnU treasurer Prof. Dr. Sabina Sharmin marked this initiative as a timely step to improve research quality and encouraging students’ interest in thesis work. 

“Proper utilization of the grants would make the university’s research sector more dynamic,” she added.

JnU acting registrar Prof. Dr. Sheikh Rafiqul Islam conducted the event. 

Deans of various faculties, directors of institutes, department chairmen, the controller of examinations, provosts, and directors of different offices were present at the time.

Under the 2022–2023 academic session, a total of 354 students from 27 departments are receiving approximately Tk 5 million in research grants. 

Each student will receive Tk 14,124 as “Thesis Student Scholarship” under the 2024–2025 fiscal year, which must be used solely for research-related works.

At the ceremony, two students from every faculty received the cheques.
