DU, BIPSOT sign MoU to enhance peacekeeping training, research cooperation

DHAKA, Nov 05, 2025 (BSS) - A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Dhaka University (DU) and Bangladesh Institute of Peace Support Operations Training (BIPSOT) today.

According the MoU, in the next ten years, both organizations will work together on research, education and training related of peacekeeping operations, said a press release here.

DU Treasurer Professor Dr M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and BIPSOT Deputy Commandant Brigadier General Mohammad Hafiz Mahmud signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions.

Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences of DU, Professor Dr Taiyebur Rahman, Proctor Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed, Chairman of the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies Dr Muhammad Sajjad Hossain Siddiqui, Acting Registrar Munshi Shams Uddin Ahmed, Senior Instructor-1 of BIPSAT Colonel Kazi Nadir Hossain, GSO-1 (Training) Lt. Colonel Sheikh Md. Murad Hossain and officials of the concerned departments, were present at the event.

Under the MoU, initiatives will be taken to organize exchange programme for teachers, students, and experts, joint research, seminars, workshops, and mutual visits to international peacekeeping training institutions between the two institutions.

After signing the MoU, Dhaka University Treasurer Professor Dr M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said this mutual collaboration between Dhaka University and BIPSOT will give a new dimension to knowledge-based peace studies and training in Bangladesh.

He said, “Peace and conflict studies are a very important field in today's global reality. Our university has always been working to further institutionalize Bangladesh's contribution to UN peacekeeping operations through knowledge and research. This collaboration with BIPSOT will further strengthen that goal.”

The treasurer said through this agreement, teachers, researchers and students will have the opportunity to gain international quality training and experience. This initiative will enrich the knowledge of peace building in both academic and professional fields, he added.
