IU expels three students for assaulting journalists

ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY, Kushtia, Nov 5, 2025 (BSS)- The authorities of Islamic 
University (IU) in Kushtia have expelled three students for two semesters 
from all academic activities for assaulting journalists during a football 
match on the university campus. Besides, nine other students have been served 
formal warnings.

The decision was announced through separate official notices signed by acting 
registrar, Professor Dr Manjurul Haque.

According to the notices, the expelled students are Nahid Hasan, Afsana 
Parvin Tina, and Riaz Morshed of the Economics department under session 2020-
21. The nine warned students include Saiful Islam, Milton Mia, Moshiur 
Rahman, Rakib Hossain under 2022-23 academic session, Sourav Dutta, Minhajul 
Abedin, Sabbir Hossain, Sourav Hossain Sajib under 2020-21 session and 
Faridul Alam Panna under 2019-20 session- all from the same department.

The decision was taken at the 271st syndicate meeting followed by 
recommendations of a five member probe body.

According to the office order, the three expelled students were found 
directly involved in assaulting journalists.

Eyewitnesses said the scuffle broke out during an inter-session football 
match of the Economics Department on July 12. When journalists tried to 
record the incident, some students allegedly assaulted three reporters and 
snatched a mobile phone from one of them.
