DHAKA, Nov 6, 2025 (BSS) - The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested Md. Majnu Mia, a member of an international wildlife trafficking ring, in connection with the theft of three endangered ringtail lemurs from Gazipur Safari Park.

Majnu (55), son of late Gias Uddin, was arrested from his village home at Kalaipara Village under Gaforgaon Police Station in Mymensingh district on November 4, said a CID press release.

With Majnu, a total of six members of the ring have so far been arrested. Of the arrestees, Majnu gave confessional statement before the court under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) admitting his involvement in the misdeed, the release added.

The animals were stolen on March 23, 2025, and smuggled abroad, said a CID press release.

Majnu's arrest follows a detailed investigation, revealing a network of traffickers using social media to target rare species for illegal sale. One lemur has been recovered, with efforts underway to find the others.

The CID continues its operation to dismantle the trafficking network and protect endangered wildlife.
